Long Beach Peninsula

Right on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, this beachfront home is the culmination of a dream for this California-born, water-loving owner. The desire was to create an open-planned home that commands ocean views while still affording a level of security and protection against the boardwalk traffic and periodic rising tides. The design of the home began with its section. By creating a plinth upon which the home sits and freeing the home of the typical confines of floors and walls, a truly open plan could be studied. This sectional understanding led to the construction of a concrete and stone base, which offers protection from the tide — both human and oceanic. Internally, the living room is the hub upon which the rest of the home revolves, both metaphorically and physically. It creates the central focus not only for the surrounding office and master bedroom, but the primary gathering space for the owner of this California dream.‍
